I dreamed I had an Interview with God
하나님과 인터뷰 하는 꿈을 꾸었다.
God asked
하나님께서 물으셨다.
"So you would like to interview me?"
"그래, 나를 인터뷰하고 싶다구?"
"If you have the time," I said.
"예, 시간이 허락하신다면요"
God smiled.
하나님은 미소 지으셨다.
"My time is eternity...
what questions do you have in mind for me?"
"내 시간은 영원이니라...뭘 묻고 싶으냐?"
"What surprises you most about humankind?"
"인간에게서 가장 놀랍게 여기시는 점은 어떤 것들이세요?"
God answered...
하나님께서 대답하시기를,
"That they get bored with childhood, they rush to grow up,
and then long to be children again."
"어린 시절이 지루하다고 안달하며 서둘러 어른이 되려는 것,
그리고 어른이 되면 다시 어린애로 돌아가고 싶어 하는 것."
"That they lose their health to make money...
and then lose their money to restore their health."
"돈을 벌기 위해 건강을 해치고나서는,
잃어 버린 건강을 되찾기 위해 번 돈을 다 써버리는 것."
"That by thinking anxiously about the future,
they forget the present,
such that they live in neither the present nor the future."
"미래에만 집착하느라 현재를 잊어 버리고
결국 현재에도 미래에도 살지 못하는 것."
"That they live as if they will never die,
and die as though they had never lived."
"결코 영원토록 죽지 않을 것 처럼 살다가는,
마침내는 하루도 못 살아 본 존재처럼
무의미하게 죽어가는 것."들 이란다.
God's hand took mine
and we were silent for awhile.
하나님은 내 손을 잡으셨다.
그렇게 한 동안 말이 없었다.
And then I asked,
내가 다시 여쭈었다.
"As a parent, What are some of life's
lessons you want your children to learn?"
"저희들의 어버이로서 당신의 자녀들에게 줄
교훈은 어떤 것들이 있나요?"
"To learn they cannot make anyone love them.
All they can do is let themselves be loved."
"누군가 억지로 너희를 사랑하게 할 수는 없으니
오직 스스로 사랑 받는 존재가 되는 수 밖엔 없다는
사실을 배워야 하느니라...,
"To learn that is not good to compare themselves to others."
남과 자신을 비교하는 일은 좋지 못하며,
"To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness."
"용서를 실천함으로써 용서하는 법을 배우기를."
"To learn that it only takes a few seconds to
open profound wounds in those they love,
and it can take many years to heal them."
"사랑하는 사람에게 상처를 주는데는
단 몇 초밖에 걸리지 않지만,
그 상처를 치유하는 데는 여러 해가 걸릴 수도 있다는 사실을."
"To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least."
"가장 많이 가진 자가 부자가 아니라,
더 이상 필요한 것이 없는 사람이 진정한 부자라는 것을."
"To learn that there are people who love them dearly,
but simply do not yet know how to express or
show their feelings."
"사람들은 서로를 극진히 사랑하면서도,
단지, 아직도 그 사랑을 표현하는 방법을
모르고 있을 뿐이라는 사실을..."
"To learn that two people can look at the same thing
and see it differently."
"두 사람이 똑 같은 것을 바라보면서도
그것을 서로 다르게 볼 수도 있다는 사실을."
"To learn that it is not enough
that they forgive one another,
but they must also forgive themselves."
서로 용서하는 것만으로는 부족하니,
너희 스스로를 용서해야 한다는
사실을 알아야 하느니라...."
"Thank you for your time," I said humbly.
"is there anything else you'd like
your children to know?"
"시간을 내 주셔서 감사합니다.
그 밖에 또 들려주실 말씀은요?"
내가 겸손하게 여쭙자
God smiled and said....
하나님은 미소 지으셨다. 그리고 말씀하셨다.
"Just know that I am here."
"늘 명심하여라. 내가 여기 있다는 사실을..."
"Always."
"언제까지나..."
